Pamlico County Health Department


Mission Statement

Promote the optimal health of Pamlico County residents through high quality professional services, to foster public trust, to minimize identified public health risks, and to ensure the safety of the environment for future generations.


Family Coordination Services

  • Maternity Care Coordination: Offers support to pregnant women, which involves a Nurse to assist in health care needs. The Maternity Care Coordinator visits homes, accompanies clients during prenatal appointment or talks to clients on the telephone at least once a month, or more if the needs arises.

  • Child Service Coordination: Child Service Coordination provides home visiting services for case management, health assessment and education, and parenting information.

  • Health Check: Health Check Outreach Program assists families of children with Medicaid obtain check-ups, immunizations, and follow-up services by helping them find transportation, make appointments and provides information on NC Health Choice for Children.


Clinical Services

  • Immunization: The Immunization Clinic offers free vaccines, which are mandated by law, to children 18 years and younger. Vaccines are available to adults individuals age 19 and over for an applicable fee.

  • Adult Health: The Adult Health Division provides screenings of adults for cancer and cardiovascular disease. Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program (BCCCP) provides breast and cervical cancer screening, including mammograms if indicated. Chronic Disease Management is available by the Family Nurse Practitioner.

  • Family Planning: Family Planning provides confidential birth control services to teens and adults to plan and space their pregnancies. The laboratory provides analysis of blood and other body fluids to assist clinicians in treating and/or managing sexually transmitted diseases and other communicable diseases.

  • Jail Health: Jail Health provides initial health screening, medication administration, daily sick call and physical examination for those incarcerated longer than 14 days.

  • Maternity Clinic: Provides clinic services to pregnant women. Spanish speaking translators are available onsite. Location of clinic is Craven County Health Department with follow-up available at agency twice a month.

Support Services

  • Health Promotion: Community education and promotion of positive health behavior changes is provided. Promotes policy and environmental changes that supports increased physical activity, healthy eating and tobacco cessation.

  • Nutrition: Individual medical nutrition therapy and general nutrition counseling is provided by a Nutritionist. Also provides nutritional therapy for prenatal nutrition, breastfeeding and post partum weight management.

  • W.I.C.: WIC provides nutrition education and counseling, supplemental nutritious foods and breastfeeding education to qualified children from birth to 5 as well as pregnant and post-partum women.

Environmental Health

  • Environmental Health: The Environmental Health Division includes Food, Lodging & Institutional Sanitation, Individual On-site Water Supply, Sanitary Sewage Collection, Treatment & Disposal and Mosquito Control.
