If you have traveled to Pamlico County, you were likely seeking it as a destination. All roads lead to the magnificent rivers and creeks of Pamlico County. Possibly you paid a visit by boat from the Intracoastal Waterway. Probably you stopped at one or more of the many small towns and enjoyed the peaceful beauty, terrific water recreation opportunities and warm hospitality of this coastal county. Tourism is only one of the many economic development activities underway in the county. Attracting retirees who help build the economy, agriculture, designing and building boats, keeping the fishing industry alive through importing and developing plans for Bayboro's downtown revitalization are some of the economic vitality signs.
The goals of economic development are to increase the economic opportunities
and improve the quality of life for Pamlico County citizens by recruiting environmentally
compatible businesses, support entrepreneurship, tourism and residential development.
The natural environment, rather than the built environment primarily defines the sense of place
in Pamlico County. Citizens value the county's rural character and heritage. Economic
development efforts will focus on recruitment of small businesses, residential development,
tourism related businesses and retail shops. Recruiting small business is a long term, ongoing
prospect. Through partnerships with regional and state based economic development agencies we can provide assistance to prospective businesses and entrepreneurs considering Pamlico County for relocation or expansion.

Pamlico County is easily accessed by NC 55 from US 70. NC 55 is being widened to five lanes with completion by late 2009. Air service is minutes away in New Bern. The ferry system makes travel throughout North Carolina's central coast not only simple, but beautiful.

Pamlico County's School system is centrally located in Bayboro.
Arapahoe Charter School, Arapahoe
Pamlico Community College is part of the North Carolina Community College System; rated first in the Nation for industry support and training. The New and Expanding Industry Training Program offers customized, free training to both new and expanding industries. The Focused Industrial Training Program provides ongoing training to North Carolina companies at a very low cost. The Small Business Center offers a wide variety of workshops and courses to assist small businesses be successful.
Pamlico Partnership for Children, Inc. nurtures the development of creative innovative programs and solutions to address the needs of young children and their families to ensure that Pamlico County children enter school healthy and ready to succeed.
Quality of Life
The quiet rivers and creeks invite residents and tourists to sail, fish and relax by the waterfronts. The town of Oriental is known as the sailing capital of North Carolina. New residential development offers something for everyone from full-time working residents to full-time retirees.
