Pamlico County operates under a Commission - Manager form of local government. Citizens elect a Board of Commissioners who serve as the community leaders and policy makers of the County. The Commissioners appoint a County Manager to carry out policy and ensure that all residents are being equally served.
The County Manager coordinates the work of department heads and other employees, who help ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of services. He is also responsible for preparing the budget, directing day-to-day operations, staffing personnel, and serving as the Commissioner's chief policy advisor.
