Economic Development

Welcome to Pamlico County, a NC Works Certified Community, where you can Work, Play, Visit or Stay! Whichever you choose, Pamlico County is a great place to be!

The Pamlico County Office of Economic Development seeks to strengthen the area's economy and encourage job creation. We accomplish the County‚Äôs economic vitality by developing strategic partnerships with the following organizations:

If you have traveled to Pamlico County, you may have sought it out as a vacation or retirement destination. People from around the world are drawn here by our magnificent rivers, creeks, sounds and the Intracoastal Waterway.  Possibly, you paid a visit by boat from the Intracoastal Waterway and stopped at one or more of our small towns and enjoyed the peaceful beauty, terrific water recreation opportunities, shopping, music, golfing, festivals, history, arts, music and warm hospitality of this coastal county.

Tourism, however, is only one of the many economic activities in our County.  We continue to build our local and regional economy by diversifying our economic development efforts beyond our treasured traditional drivers of fishing, farming, forestry and tourism. Our economic development goals include increasing economic opportunities and improving the quality of life for Pamlico County citizens. Consider our community attributes when you are seeking a business location.

  • Strategic geographical position on the center of the East Coast
  • Miles of deep-water access and towns on the Intracoastal Waterway
  • Excellent reputation as a boating destination
  • Concentration of marine trades industries and yacht manufacturing
  • Excellent entrepreneur support community

The Eastern Carolina Council of Governments (ECC) is requesting participation from the community in the development of the upcoming Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) update via an online survey. Simply put, a CEDS is a strategy-driven plan for regional economic development.  The survey is available at

Input form this survey will assist ECC in creating a 5-year economic development strategy to help guide and better serve our region. It should take 20 minutes to complete. ECC encourages you to complete and share our survey with other leaders and community members to ensure full representation.

Thank you for your help!
